If you like Caribbean cuisine, or traditional Southern cooking, a new place in Frederick could be what you're looking for.
Caribbean Soul Restaurant & Bar, 480A Prospect Boulevard, Weis Festival Shopping Center, offers a variety of both types of foods.
It is the first restaurant venture for both owner Rohan Codlin and general manager Tanisha Walton. O'Neil Brown is the chef.
Codlin owns Five Star Hand Car Wash in Frederick . Walton is a veteran of the U.S. Army and formerly worked at Fort Detrick.
"We saw a need for it in Frederick ," Codlin said of the restaurant. "Frederick has become very diverse in the past 10 years or so."
The restaurant seats 70 and live music will be added later on, Walton said.
"We plan to have a happy hour on Thursdays and Fridays, poker nights, dominoes and more."
There will be open mike nights, rhythm and blues and "rock steady" Caribbean music on various nights.
The menu ranges from curry goat, oxtails and jerk chicken and jerk shrimp, to ribs, fried chicken and homemade meatloaf and cornbread.
Desserts include Caribbean rum pound cake and tropical juices and D&G sodas are available.
Caribbean Soul is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday to Wednesday, 11 a.m. to midnight Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, closed Monday.
